Download or read book A Model for Islamic Development written by Shafiullah Jan and published by Edward Elgar Publishing. This book was released on 2019 with total page 240 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book aims to explore and analyse Islamic Moral Economy (IME) as an alternative economic and social system to capitalism and socialism. It proposes a new model of Islamic development, integrating global development within an Islamic framework of spiritual development. It is argued that the failure of Muslim countries to provide basic necessities and an environment free of oppression and injustice can be overcome with this authentic Islamic development framework. In addition, this book can be an important study to identify the theological, political, social and economic boundaries for changing the society to produce IME oriented developmentalism.
Download or read book Social Justice and Islamic Economics written by Toseef Azid and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2019-02-25 with total page 210 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Under the rule of the current economic order, social injustice is ever-increasing. Issues such as poverty, inhumane working conditions, inadequate wages, social insecurity and an unhealthy labor market continue to persist. Many states are also unable to produce policies capable of resolving these problems. The characteristics of the capitalist system currently render it unable to provide social justice. In fact, on the contrary, the system reinforces these injustices and prevents economic and social welfare from reaching the masses. Many Muslim scholars have analyzed and, indeed, criticized this system for years. This book argues that an alternative and more equitable theoretical and practical economical order can been developed within the framework of Islamic principles. On the other hand, the experiences of societies under the rule of Muslim governments do not always seem to hold great promise for an alternative understanding of social justice. In addition, the behaviors of Muslim individuals within their economic lives are mostly shaped by the necessities of daily economic conditions rather than by the tenets of Islam that stand with social justice. Until 1990s, studies of Islamic economics made connections between finance and the notion of social justice, but work conducted more recently has neglected this issue. It is therefore evident that the topic of social justice needs to be revisited in a more in-depth manner. Filling an important gap in existing literature, the book uniquely connects social justice and Islamic finance and economics on this topic. Theory, practice and key issues are presented simultaneously throughout this book, which is based on the writings of a number of eminent scholars.

Download or read book Ḥisba, Arts and Craft in Islam written by Ahmad Ghabin and published by Otto Harrassowitz Verlag. This book was released on 2009 with total page 292 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book focusses on a historical and cultural aspect of medieval Islam: the market inspection (hisba) in the Muslim state and its impact on the development of arts and crafts. It is a pioneer work in Islamic studies in which this aspect is being studied from over-all historical and cultural points of view. The study deals with two main issues: the history of market inspection in medieval Islam where it tries to highlight some additional notes concerning the origin of the institution of market inspection in Islam and also emphasizes its cultural role in the Muslim society. The second issue focuses on the impact of the institution of market inspection on the development of the visual arts and crafts in medieval Islam. Methodologically, the study surveys the references to the crafts in the manuals of hisba and compares them with the information about these crafts as they run in reality.
Download or read book Economic Guidelines in the Quran written by Syed Muhammad Hasan-uz-Zaman and published by International Institute of Islamic Thought (IIIT). This book was released on 1999 with total page 398 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In its bid to provide a sound, healthy and balanced orientation to human life, Islam accords rightful importance to all aspects of human activity including the economic. Significantly enough, Islam exhibits no trace of that unwarranted spiritual exuberance that would prompt it to look upon wealth contemptuously as too profane to deserve its due attention. On the contrary, it declares that God has made wealth a support for men (Qur’an 4:5), which clearly reflects Islam’s recognition of the importance of economic resources for man’s well-being. The present book is addressed to the needs of the economists who are interested in having access to the guidelines that the Qur’an can offer them in the field of their concerns. Since a majority of economists is not proficient in Arabic, it is hoped that the present work, being in English, will be of substantial help to them. While preparing this work the author has kept in view the major economic subjects and their sub-classifications. He also attempted to derive and identify not only the essential economic principles expounded in the Qur’an, but also the norms of economic behavior and the principles that could guide and regulate the functioning of economic institutions in an Islamic state.
