Book excerpt: The following is a series of poems written by me. The poems are based on my personal experiences and feelings. As I go through life battling this disease, I experience a broad range of emotions on a daily basis. I chose to reveal my emotions to the world not only to give you a taste of my deepest thoughts and feelings but also to reveal what others similar to me may experience while battling this illness or any illness. The life of a person with Lupus isn’t easy. I’ve been battling with this part of my life for over 18 years now and it’s all because of the complication of this illness that I experience so many complex emotions. After reading this, I hope that you not only appreciate your life a little bit more, but also appreciate the life of others surrounding you. We are not meant to travel down the same path, we are not meant to experience the same experiences, but I do believe we are meant to live on the same earth and grasp some type of meaning of life.

Book excerpt: This book, A Piece of Me, is just that, a piece of me. Growing up in two different households, trying to live what I learned from both, and not understanding the realities of this thing called LIFE. Some lessons were hard and some were easy, but, there was always a lesson. In retrospect, I can now look on pieces of my life in humor, or appreciation of the moment, and continually see how God moves. This may sound like a cliche but "Our God IS an AWESOME God."

Book excerpt: A snippet of the life of a teenage girl, from 8th-11th grade, in the form of poetry and short stories. ""I use writing to sort situations so that they make sense to me. I've read these poems countless times to myself, trying to come to terms with the way a friend left me disappointed, how a theatre company filled me with so much joy, the magnificence of nature, the irony that we are just like the people whom we most dislike, why I am the way I am, and why other people are the way that they are. Through writing... I have discovered the amazing thing about art: the artist can take a terrible situation and mold it into an expression of beauty...""

When Max, their son, becomes ill they are presented with difficult choices that include allowing Marcia to donate a portion of her own liver. Michael is initially opposed to this choice and would prefer to wait until an appropriate liver becomes available from another child of Max's approximate age and size who has suddenly died. During the months during which Max's condition slowly worsens Marcia seeks relief from stress by deciding to learn Beethoven's Appassionata piano sonata, a piece that her mother recorded but that Marcia had not been able to master in the past. When she was a teenager Marcia visited southern California and came to love it. When Michael is offered a promotion and partnership in the law firm, if he returns to the New York office, their marriage is further stressed by Michael's resistance to Marcia being a donor, by his controlling nature, and by Marcia's reluctance to leave Los Angeles and her close friends.

He came into her life and swept her off her feet, seduced her, married her...and then slowly, eventually, that dream come true became a living nightmare.br> Now, three years after she finally escaped him, she’s trying to put her life back together. Haunted by memories, struggling with post-traumatic stress, she spends most of her time locked away in her home on Pawley’s Island, a small town on the South Carolina coast. Her rare moments of joy come from her trips to the nearby beach. She compulsively checks the locks on her doors, makes sure she has her cell phones—five of them—and if she misses something on her schedule, it throws her into a panic. When she accidentally leaves a sketchbook on the beach, an anxiety attack seems imminent. Her art has become her salvation, her sanity, and losing even one sketch is like losing a piece of her soul. When she returns to hunt for the sketchbook, already fearing it’s gone for good, she’s surprised to find it still sitting there, saved by a sexy fellow beach lover—the mysterious Dillian Jenkins. He’s brash, bold, brutally handsome...and gentle. He’s the exact opposite of the man who’d tormented her for years, and Shadow finds herself slowly, almost reluctantly, falling for him. Even obsessing over him. When her ex-husband once again intrudes on the happiness she’s finally discovering, Shadow turns to Dillian. But will she find shelter there...or another betrayal?

The first time I saw Brinley Knox, she was crying and heartbroken at her own sweet sixteen party. The daughter of the wealthiest family in Orchid Valley, she was off limits to someone like me—the teenage charity case, the hired help. But that didn’t stop me from kissing her. Or from promising if she were ever mine, I’d never let her go. The last time I saw Brinley Knox, I made good on that promise. Forget that it was the first time we’d seen each other in ten years, or that we were drunk in Vegas when we said I do. I meant every word, every touch, every promise. The problem? When I came back to the hotel, she was gone—the ring I slipped on her finger and the note she left behind the only reminders she had been there. Well, those and the hole she left in my chest in place of my heart. We haven’t spoken in the six months since, and I’m not the kind of guy who’d file for a divorce he doesn’t want. But when I get the invitation to her wedding to another man, it’s time to return to Orchid Valley and remind the bride-to-be that I’m a man who keeps his promises. Every Little Piece of Me is a sexy, standalone second-chance romance in Lexi Ryan’s all-new Orchid Valley series.

Download or read book Every Piece of Me written by Jerusha Clark and published by Baker Books. This book was released on 2017-08-01 with total page 240 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Throughout Scripture, God reveals himself as the great I Am. He does not define himself with reference to any thing, person, or trait. He is, and that is enough. Women find themselves in a far different situation. When we introduce ourselves, we typically describe ourselves in terms of our relationships (the wife, mother, daughter, sister, or friend of someone else) or in terms of our accomplishments (our title, position, education, or accolades). When our identity is wrapped up in these external things, we inevitably (and exhaustingly!) strive to prove ourselves worthy of love, attention, or affirmation. God never meant for us to focus on whether we are "enough," whether we measure up. He made us--every piece of us--to be just as he is. Jerusha Clark discovered this while exploring Jesus's seven powerful "I am" statements recorded in the Gospel of John. She invites women to join her in embracing the life and truth of these words, relishing the freedom of an identity fixed on Christ alone while leaving behind fear, bitterness, busyness, and toxic thoughts that steal our joy and limit our power.

Download or read book My Sister's Keeper written by Jodi Picoult and published by Simon and Schuster. This book was released on 2004-04-06 with total page 432 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: New York Times bestselling author Jodi Picoult tells the story of a girl who decides to sue her parents for the rights to her own body in this powerful family drama that tackles a controversial subject with grace and explores what it means to be a good person. Anna is not sick, but she might as well be. By age thirteen, she has undergone countless surgeries, transfusions, and shots so that her older sister, Kate, can somehow fight the leukemia that has plagued her since childhood. The product of preimplantation genetic diagnosis, Anna was conceived as a bone marrow match for Kate—a life and a role that she has never challenged...until now. Like most teenagers, Anna is beginning to question who she truly is. But unlike most teenagers, she has always been defined in terms of her sister—and so Anna makes a decision that for most would be unthinkable, a decision that will tear her family apart and have perhaps fatal consequences for the sister she loves. My Sister’s Keeper examines what it means to be a good parent, a good sister, a good person. Is it morally correct to do whatever it takes to save a child’s life, even if that means infringing upon the rights of another? Is it worth trying to discover who you really are, if that quest makes you like yourself less? Should you follow your own heart, or let others lead you? Once again, in My Sister’s Keeper, Jodi Picoult tackles a controversial real-life subject with grace, wisdom, and sensitivity.
